It's peach season in Ontario and we are blessed to have the Niagara belt that has the perfect conditions for producing this delicious fruit. But can't we all agree that sometimes when we buy that fruit we get a little over zealous and make the mistake of biting into a rock hard, tasteless fruit that was picked and shipped too early? Ever wonder how to make sure your peach is ready to eat? Here are a few tips...
Stop squeezing them! This bruises the fruit and they begin to rot.
Cover them with a cloth napkin on the counter until they ripen.
Only refrigerate AFTER they are ripe.
Wait until the peach smells like a peach! This is how you know its ripe :)
We always use seasonal items in our menu options and support local whenever we can. The photos above are peaches purchased at the L'Amis market stand at the corner of Algonquin and Landsdowne ...and they were delicious! Happy peach season!
As you may have heard, Artisan Food Co. Café and Catering is moving…
After 3 years at our beautiful Callander location and by popular public request, Artisan Food Co. will be moving to our new location in North Bay for September 1st 2016.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our wonderful customers who have frequented our restaurant and supported us through this three year journey. We can truly say we could not have done it without you, and we are forever grateful to all of you who biked, jogged, walked and drove several miles from town to come and see us as often as you could. It has been our pleasure serving you!
We refer to our Callander location as ‘The center of the Universe,’ because for us it has been a place where we have met some very special people who will forever leave an imprint with us – and although it is not to say that we won’t see you at our new location, it holds great sentimental value to us that ‘The Café’ is where we met some truly wonderful people who have walked through our doors. In addition, we have forged some lifelong connections between staff members who have become like family members. We would also like to say a solemn farewell to our amazing neighbours at ‘The Artisan Mall’ and wish you all the very best. Thank you for supporting our business: Staff at Eyes on Main, Angie’s Barber Shop, staff at Dazzling Doggies, and to our former neighbours at Remax.
Another special thank you! also goes out to some very special people and business owners in the community as who have rooted for us, promoted us and supported us in every way that they could. To Jen and Brent Bywater and the staff at Vested Interest, Nicki at Ohana Wellness Studio and Kara at The Municipality of Callander – we can’t thank you enough for all you have done to encourage, support and promote our little café business and to all the local Callander businesses who have dined with us or picked up takeout on their lunch breaks. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
We would also like to send out a huge THANK YOU! to our new Landlords, The Richardson’s, Tom and Geoff, because without you and your support of our business we would not have such a lovely new location to move to. ‘The Cornerstone’ on Oak and Ferguson – in North Bay’s oldest building (that’s what Tom told me, and I believe him). We are so excited for this new chapter to commence and we couldn’t be more grateful to be working with two such stand–up guys who work tirelessly to invest in North Bay and the Downtown core. To our new neighbours’ at Dirty Girls Farms and The Fitness Room, we look forward to being right down the hall from two more great businesses!
As with all growth comes a time for change, and we have made the decision that in order to continue serving you and serving you in bigger and better ways it would be necessary to move to our new location to do so, and so we jumped at the opportunity to do just that. We will continue to offer the great service and freshly made food that you all deserve and look forward to meeting the many new faces we get to serve and forging new friendships.
Our hours from Callander will be adjusted slightly, and we will be open Monday to Saturday from 10:30am to 3pm – serving our Midday Fare and will continue to offer our Unique ‘Full Moon Dinners’ at our new location in downtown North Bay.
Before closing we would also like to say thank you! to our local suppliers and their staff who have kept us stocked with the many many items we need, to continue providing the services we do:
Withold, Thor and staff at TW Foods
Dave and staff at Fresh Co.
Bob and staff at Vaughan Paper Products
Chris at B&B Beverages
Stephan and Ann at Board’s Honey
And to the many others who have provided us with local product over the past three years
Thank you North Bay and Callander for all your love and support. We love you!
